Commanders News: Sam Howell, Carson Wentz, Chase Young and Emmanuel Forbes
By Dean Jones
Which Wasington Commanders news stories are hitting the headlines with just one schedule OTA session remaining before their summer break?
The Washington Commanders had to move practice indoors on Thursday for the final day of their mandatory minicamp due to poor air quality. However, players and coaches still got plenty out of their time on the artificial field as preparations for the upcoming 2023 campaign continue to go smoothly.
And yet, the news and rumors never seem to stop. Among the topics causing debate recently include Sam Howell's status heading into training camp, Carson Wentz touted to find a new home soon, rookie cornerback Emmanuel Forbes gaining further plaudits, and the Kansas City Chiefs linked with a trade for defensive end Chase Young.
Let's delve into each topic in more detail.
Former Commanders QB linked to the Raiders
With speculation mounting about Jimmy Garoppolo's health after signing his lucrative deal in free agency, the Las Vegas Raiders need to form a contingency plan in the event he cannot suit up in Week 1. According to Paul Gutierrez of ESPN, former Washington Commanders quarterback Carson Wentz would be the best possible option considering he already has a previous connection with Scott Turner.
"If the Raiders have to look elsewhere, free agent Carson Wentz would seem to be the best option. Raiders pass game coordinator Scott Turner has experience with Wentz as the Washington Commanders' offensive coordinator last season, for what it's worth."
- Paul Gutierrez, ESPN
While Wentz and Turner are connected, the relationship didn't exactly blossom in Washington. Otherwise, they both wouldn't have been removed from the franchise this offseason.
Wentz has been working out waiting for another opportunity. Looking at the possibilities, landing in Las Vegas would arguably represent the best chance to play in 2023 depending on how things unfold with Garoppolo.
