Commanders HC Ron Rivera's defensive struggles
After so much optimism to begin the 2023 campaign, the Washington Commanders got a rude awakening in Week 3 against the Buffalo Bills. Their hammering at FedEx Field also brought to light just how far away this team is from being a legitimate challenger.
Ron Rivera probably knew deep down what he's seen over the opening fortnight against the Arizona Cardinals and Denver Broncos needed some context attached. All hope isn't lost, and this super-size dose of humble pie might actually serve the Commanders well moving forward if it gets a positive response from the players.
When discussing what comes next for the Commanders, the head coach stated that corrections will arise via Washington's website. Rivera was also confident that his team could identify areas of concern and improve accordingly.
"That's what we intend to do, to learn what our mistakes were, learn what the things we didn't do right, get those things corrected and move forward. That's what we're gonna do. We're not gonna stay indoors because the sky is falling. We're gonna show up, we're gonna work hard and we're gonna get it corrected."Ron Rivera via Commanders.com
Things obviously don't get any easier this weekend with a trip to Lincoln Financial Field to take on the Philadelphia Eagles. If the Commanders turn up like this - especially early on in such an intimidating atmosphere - it'll be another long afternoon at the office.
