Commanders News: Sale movement, Chase Young, Montez Sweat, and Cameron Dantzler

Commanders DE Montez Sweat on contract situation
While the majority of attention centered on Chase Young returning to the practice field, fellow pass-rusher Montez Sweat also came back to the facility after skipping the voluntary part of OTAs. Many believed this was down to the player's contract situation as the defensive end prepares to embark on the final campaign of his rookie deal.
Sweat - unlike Young - has been a model of consistency and stayed healthy throughout the duration of his contract. Paying him over the former Ohio State stud seems like the safe bet, although one couldn't dismiss a huge bounce-back from the No. 2 overall selection in 2020 providing there are no further complications on the health front.
Head coach Ron Rivera stated recently that everything is on hold in terms of further contract extensions until the Washington Commanders' sale process receives formal NFL approval. Once everything gets resolved in a satisfactory manner, then perhaps long-term deals for the likes of Sweat and Kamren Curl will arrive.
A scenario could also emerge where the Commanders let things play out with Sweat, which is a gamble that could cost them more in the long run. When asked about his contract status recently, the one-time Mississippi State star highlighted Daron Payne as the benchmark when it comes to an increase in production resulting in a huge payday via Yahoo Sports.
"Oh yeah, for sure, he definitely laid the blueprint on how to get your bag. So, I mean, salute to him."

The Commanders could have a big problem on their hands if Sweat and Young both play up to their talent level. But this is the route Rivera decided to go for good or bad.
