Andre Jones Jr. fulfilling dream with Commanders

The Washington Commanders rounded off their 2023 NFL Draft selections by taking Andre Jones Jr. at No. 233 overall. He's a little rough around the edges, but the athletic measurables suggest the edge rusher can make the team and perhaps carve out a role for himself along the way.

This will be difficult - especially considering the talent littered across Washington's defensive front - but Jones is keen to maximize the opportunity. One that represents fulfilling a lifelong dream for the one-time Louisiana standout.

"It’s a lifelong dream man. It's waiting on opportunity. That's all I was waiting on and that's all I need, opportunity and I'm glad they gave me the chance. That's all. I knew it was coming, but you know, God doesn’t make any mistakes."

As stated previously, Jones has his work cut out. There could be a slight opening after Shaka Toney received an indefinite suspension for violating the NFL's gambling policy, but K.J. Henry - their fifth-round pick whom they traded up to acquire - is also looking to secure out a prominent role for himself.

Whether he makes the team or not, it won't be for the lack of trying. And who knows, Jones could become the latest Commanders' seventh-round pick to far exceed expectations.
