Which Washington Commanders news stories are hitting the headlines as excitement continues to build ahead of Week 1 versus the Arizona Cardinals?

Spirits are high across the Washington Commanders as they embark on their first regular season without the previous owner's dark cloud hanging over the organization in 24 years. FedEx Field will be sold out on Sunday and performing in front of such a highly charged atmosphere is all the motivation this gifted group of players needs to hopefully get their campaign off on a positive note.

It's an exciting time, for sure. Until then, the stories accumulating column inches include Terry McLaurin's status, Ron Rivera on the Arizona Cardinals' quarterback conundrum, Sam Howell's bandwagon getting another member, and Washington hosting a familiar face.

Let's delve into each topic in more detail.

Commanders host Jamison Crowder

There was an interesting name on the NFL's transaction wire where the Washington Commanders were concerned on Tuesday afternoon. According to the long list of workouts around the league post-Labor Day, Ron Rivera and his staff hosted wide receiver/kick returner Jamison Crowder for a visit, although no deal came immediately after.

Crowder is no stranger to Washington having begun his NFL journey in the nation's capital as a fourth-round selection. He spent four seasons with the team before departing for the New York Jets, securing 221 receptions for 2,628 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns for the now-Commanders franchise.

After featuring just four times for the Buffalo Bills last season, it remains to be seen how much Crowder still has to offer. It's also worth remembering that the former Duke standout hasn't been a primary punt/kick returner since the 2017 campaign.

It never hurts to bring guys in for visits. Whether this results in a deal for Crowder remains to be seen.
