Commanders QB confusion

It all started so well for Sam Howell in Week 17 against the San Francisco 49ers. The quarterback put together a decent first half in the face of dominant opposition. Unfortunately, things began getting away from the Washington Commanders and the young signal-caller reverted to type with two interceptions.

Howell's future is hanging in the balance with the Commanders in touching distance of landing someone like Caleb Williams or Drake Maye in the 2024 NFL Draft. Whether he'll get the chance to see out the campaign over Jacoby Brissett versus the Dallas Cowboys in Week 18 has yet to be determined.

When asked who would be starting under center for what promises to be his final game at the helm, Ron Rivera remained non-commital based on comments via USA Today Sports. However, we should get a more definitive answer from the head coach later today (Wednesday).

"We don’t have to let anybody know until tomorrow, so we’re just going to wait. We don’t want to give them any head start on anything."

There doesn't seem much point in moving away from Howell at this late stage. Much will also depend on how Brissett's hamstring injury is coming along after the complication prevented him from suiting up against the Niners last weekend.
