Montez Sweat throws shade at Commanders culture

Trading Montez Sweat is something the Washington Commanders were reluctant to do. They were high on the defensive end after a standout career with the team. However, the second-round selection put up by the Chicago Bears was too tempting to turn down in the team's current flux.

That pick might not be as high as initially thought. The Bears are going through something of a mini-renaissance in recent weeks. Sweat's been a big part of their resurgence, coming in for significant praise for the way he's adjusted to different surroundings in such a short space of time.

After their latest triumph over the Detroit Lions, Sweat couldn't help but take a stab at the current culture in Washington. One the former first-round pick believed was just going through the motions rather than striving for improvements based on comments via USA Today Sports.

"Where I come from, it was kind of like just waiting on the season to end. But here it’s like, every week is a new challenge, and people want to play for the man beside him……..Coach ‘Flus is a great coach. He keeps us motivated. I’ve never seen a head coach run the team and call defensive plays, so that’s new for me. A lot of respect for him as a coach."

This does nothing to lessen the belief that all is not well in Washington. Many players appear to check out during their beatdown against the Miami Dolphins before the bye. Another reason why a fresh start is needed across the board once the campaign mercifully concludes.
