Commanders WR Jahan Dotson's struggles

Even though the Washington Commanders offense continues to make encouraging strides under Eric Bieniemy, there are a few players not pulling their weight. One of these is wide receiver Jahan Dotson, who came into the campaign as a potential breakout candidate but has flattered to deceive so far.

Dotson's unacceptable drop on what turned out to be his only target at the Atlanta Falcons was a microcosm of how things are unfolding for the former first-round pick through six weeks. But head coach Ron Rivera is confident that the dynamic presence can get going sooner rather than later based on comments via the team's website.

"As we continue to work and try to distribute the ball to all the players, it'll happen. It's just one of those things that sometimes, guys will be targeted more … When a guy's not getting the ball right now, it's just a matter of time. I think that's the thing that we all have to be patient with. This is a group of receivers…and we're gonna distribute the ball based on gameplans and who our opponents are."

The one-time Penn State stud is far too talented to be a non-factor in the passing attack. Dotson did draw a crucial holding call as the game wore on, but the lack of targets indicates there is work to do in pursuit of earning the trust of Bieniemy and quarterback Sam Howell in regards to becoming a feature option.
