Commanders teammate names Sam Howell QB1

Everyone is seemingly of the belief that Sam Howell will be the Washington Commanders' starting quarterback in Week 1 against the Arizona Cardinals. He's done nothing to alter this perception throughout early offseason workouts, although there is a lot of hard work ahead to polish things up before the regular season commences.

Ron Rivera has been quick to point out at every turn that the Commanders will move forward with their competition between Howell and Jacoby Brissett for the No. 1 job. Even if most have deemed this a foregone conclusion based on the momentum building around the former fifth-round selection.

In Jahan Dotson's case, he's already declared the winner. When speaking during an appearance on The Jim Rome Show, the Penn State product stated via Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk that the quarterback situation in Washington is settled and that he cannot wait to begin making plays for Howell in 2023.

"I think we got our quarterback situation settled. I think Sam Howell’s gonna be our guy. I have complete faith in him. He makes throws look super effortless on the field. He’s been a great leader. He’s learning how to lead an NFL offense. . . . So I’m super excited for him. I can’t wait to make plays for him."

This was another confidence boost for Howell and a bold statement from Dotson considering it hasn't been confirmed by the coaching staff. As previously stated, nobody is in a position to get complacent during their summer break, least of all a signal-caller that could be the deciding factor behind influential figures within the Commanders keeping their jobs or not.
