Commanders CB Emmanuel Forbes compared to All-Pro

It didn't take long for Emmanuel Forbes to begin imposing himself on the Washington Commanders. In fact, the impact was so quick it was reminiscent of the way he approaches matters between the white lines.

Forbes was the apple of Ron Rivera's eye during the pre-draft evaluation process en route to becoming the No. 16 overall selection. Many questioned the move, but aside from the durability concerns, there is nothing to suggest the former Mississippi State star cannot become a highly productive NFL cornerback.

According to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, Forbes drew comparisons to Trevon Diggs throughout Washington's rookie minicamp. Although the Dallas Cowboys defensive back has his flaws, it's a decent bar to aim for during the player's initial transition.

"The 16th pick in April’s draft came out flying in rookie minicamp—with a pick on the first day that reminded one Washington coach of Trevon Diggs—in how instinctively and aggressively Forbes went after the ball. Of course, the tape on the former Mississippi State star was spectacular. No one debates his reel was one of the best in the draft. So we’ll see, come summer and fall, how he answers questions. But so far, so good."

There will be sterner tests ahead for Forbes. Competing against the likes of Terry McLaurin, Curtis Samuel, and Jahan Dotson during the preparation period will help, which should provide the right foundation to hit the ground running from a starting role as a rookie.
