Commanders DE Montez Sweat lauded
All the hype has centered on Chase Young's return to the gridiron, which is understandable considering the Washington Commanders declined his fifth-year option and where he was drafted. But those in power must be thrilled with how Montez Sweat has progressed this offseason.
Young's running mate on the defensive front is also looking for a new deal before or after the 2023 campaign. Sweat's well on his way to getting a bumper payday, dominating teammates constantly during drills and looking the part in limited involvement against the Cleveland Browns.
When asked about Sweat's performance levels so far this summer, Ron Rivera stated his pleasure via the team's website. This revolves around elite explosiveness and seeing things quicker than most at the position.
"He's a guy that's got some great explosion, play speed and quickness. And you see it. You see it flare up when he's focused in and ready to roll. You see some good reps. You see some flashes of what his abilities really are."

If the Commanders had any sense, they would look at extending Sweat long-term before the campaign. This could save them more in the long run and also provide those in power with a little extra wiggle room with Young depending on how the former Ohio State phenom performs during a make-or-break season.
Sweat is dependable, productive, and a respected figure on and off the field. Players like that are hard to find.
