Logan Thomas reflects on Commanders injury blow
Although he isn't the biggest household name, there was a quiet belief that Armani Rogers was set for big things with the Washington Commanders in 2023. He's the most dynamic pass-catching presence in the tight end room and displayed enough in limited action last season to suggest more could be on the way under Eric Bieniemy.
Sadly, that won't be the case anymore. Rogers suffered a ruptured Achilles on the first official day of OTAs this week, which requires surgery and rules him out for the entire campaign.
This is a body blow to the player and the Commanders. When asked about the incident, veteran Logan Thomas couldn't hide his dismay via Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post and USA Today Sports, highlighting the need to be there for his teammate with some significant rehabilitation ahead.
"It hurt my heart. It hurt it a lot. We were standing right behind him when it happened and obviously saw the whole thing. Heard the whole thing, which was even scarier. But I talked to him yesterday and told him that there’s going to be some dark days, and when those days come, my number’s available. Call me."

The need for Thomas to remain healthy is more important than ever in the wake of Rogers' complication. Cole Turner, John Bates, and Curtis Hodges could make strides, but the onus is on the Commanders' most experienced individual to stand up and be counted next season.
Otherwise, it will be his last in Washington beyond any doubt.
