Commanders linked with Nick Chubb trade

Speaking of running backs, the Washington Commanders were linked to one of the league's best recently. This might seem a little far-fetched, but the benefits are obvious provided the player in question has fully recovered from a serious knee injury.

Nick Chubb had his 2023 campaign cruelly cut short after just two games. This is the second ACL tear suffered by the former second-round selection. Considering the current trend around the league regarding running backs and their shelf life, the Cleveland Browns have a big decision to make given the $11.82 million in savings attached to an early release.

If the Browns cut Chubb or make him available for trade, Jon Conahan from Heavy.com thought the Commanders would be a tremendous landing spot for the player. Especially given the speculation surrounding those in power taking a rookie quarterback at No. 2 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft.

"The Washington Commanders offense needs changes this offseason. That all starts with who they draft with the No. 2 pick. It’s expected that the Commanders will draft a quarterback with that pick. If they do, offensive weapons around him are a must. When healthy, [Nick] Chubb was arguably the best running back in football. He came back from that first knee injury and showed he could still be elite. While coming back from the second one won’t be any easier, it’s a risk the Commanders should be willing to take. If they’re [Cleveland Browns] looking to move him, the Commanders could be an interesting landing spot."

Having Brian Robinson Jr. and Chris Rodriguez Jr. would take some pressure off Chubb being the lead-back in this scenario. But the Commanders might look for someone with more prowess in the passing game when push comes to shove.
