Commanders can franchise tag Kamren Curl

Teams around the NFL are busy preparing for what promises to be another frantic offseason of recruitment. It would be a huge surprise if the Washington Commanders weren't big players after those in power put themselves in an extremely profitable position to speed up their rebuild.

Recruitment will be a vital part of the process. Adam Peters and his staff must also determine which players are worth keeping around on new deals. As previously mentioned, finding the correct balance could determine how long their journey into contention will take.

If the Commanders see fit, they can officially use the franchise tag from today (March 20). There are a couple of candidates for the distinction. Kamren Curl is right at the top of this list.

The progressive young safety should be retained. Using the franchise tag on Curl would prevent him from speaking to other teams. It also gives the Commanders some extra breathing space to work out a long-term extension.

Curl's salary for the 2024 season would rise to $16.22 million on the franchise tag, per Over the Cap. That's a steep price to pay, but the figure could come down significantly if they work out a new deal before the deadline.

Kendall Fuller is another who could get tagged, although this scenario is less likely.
