Commanders QB Sam Howell's demeanor

One of the biggest positives from the Washington Commanders' perspective during Preseason Week 2 against the Baltimore Ravens was the performance of Sam Howell. It might have been versus the second and third-string defenses, but the former fifth-round selection displayed all the credentials normally associated with productive NFL quarterbacks.

At the end of the day, Howell could only beat what was in front of him. He knows more will be needed when the real action arrives, but there seems to be some real momentum building around someone that the Commanders are counting heavily on to deliver the goods in 2023.

Howell is also providing a calming influence on his teammates. It wasn't perfect, but wide receiver Dyami Brown lifted the lid via Washington's website about how his signal-caller keeps everyone even-keeled in the hope of achieving their collective goal.

"He always kept his composure, and it helps us a lot because we don't always want to be up and down. We want to be steady to make sure everything is okay and we can go out there and execute."

The praise was glowing from many regarding Howell's performance with the NFL world watching. He's still something of an unknown quantity with one professional start to call upon, but the arm strength, confidence to get the ball into tight windows, and overall field vision mean hopes are growing where the one-time North Carolina stud is concerned.
