Commanders QB Sam Howell on moving forward

It was relatively smooth sailing for quarterback Sam Howell from a starting position before Sunday. However, the signal-caller was found wanting against high-caliber opposition during the worst performance of his professional career by a considerable margin.

Howell gave away multiple interceptions, struggled to find any sort of rhythm, and was hesitant to get rid of the football. That's a recipe for disaster against a Buffalo Bills defense who were intent on making the former fifth-round pick's life a living hell throughout.

One thing Howell does have going for him is a willingness to learn and the mindset to move on quickly. Something he laid out specifically during recent comments via John Keim of ESPN.

"I gave up some situations where I was trying to get the ball out of my hands and trying to avoid a negative play. I just kind of forced something. It wasn’t a good decision. Just all those bad plays. I’ll learn from it; I’ll be better from it."

It wasn't all going to be plain sailing for Howell in 2023. He basically red-shirted his rookie season and is still learning on the job, so there were always going to be some growing pains attached to the North Carolina product this season.

Howell must respond positively and take better care of the football. If he doesn't, the Philadelphia Eagles are more than capable of creating turnovers at will.
