Commanders News: Josh Harris, Ron Rivera, Sam Howell and Desean Jackson

Commanders remain confident in Sam Howell
It's difficult to say with any guarantee what the future holds for quarterback Sam Howell. The signal-caller is performing well in difficult circumstances, but there's just no telling how a new coaching staff or key front-office personnel will take things forward if the Washington Commanders make changes.
Howell's growth is encouraging and he currently leads the league in passing yards within Eric Bieniemy's pass-heavy system. But it's the overall development and how the former fifth-round pick is correcting mistakes that are more impressive to head coach Ron Rivera based on comments via USA Today Sports.
"This is really his (Howell’s) first year, our first year as a team, in the system. I’d like to believe that we’ve seen what the potential of it could be as we continue to grow in it. And as Sam continues to learn it, and the rest of the guys do too as well, the balance of spreading it to who needs to have it. I think that (getting the ball to the playmakers) will come even more so as things continue to develop."

Finishing the season strongly will put Howell in a good spot. Even if the Commanders' new regime decided not to move forward with the gunslinger, countless teams around the league would be willing trade partners if Washington went with someone else.
However, that would be extremely harsh based on the body of work Howell's put on tape this season.
