Commanders DC Jack Del Rio's praise
It was something of a surprise to see the Washington Commanders spend their first two picks of the 2023 NFL Draft on defensive backs. Many thought one would be acquired early, but doubling up when there were a number of outstanding interior offensive linemen available was a contentious decision among the fanbase.
Both Emmanuel Forbes and Quan Martin have been heavily involved throughout the preparation period. The former Mississippi State standout looks like a potential superstar at the cornerback spot and even though the second-rounder had his struggles, there were signs of encouragement during the second preseason game.
When discussing the talented young duo, Commanders defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio seemed pleased overall based on his comments via USA Today Sports. Something that centers on hard work ethic and getting acclimatized quickly.
"Yeah, I think he’s [Emmanuel Forbes] doing just that coming along, working, getting comfortable within the scheme and things we’re asking him to do, and communicating with his teammates. So, showed up a couple times, you know, he is going to have to do that, you know, when corner crack replace is called on, and him showing up, he is done that in each of the games. So that’s encouraging. Quan’s been outstanding, really. He’s had some errors that were noticeable, but he doesn’t make the same mistake twice. He’s a guy that’s had a lot thrown at him, and I think he’s handled it very well."

There will be some growing pains initially. But the Commanders might have two special individuals on their hands if the early signs are any indication.
