Commanders LB Bobby Wagner's assessment

There isn't much that Bobby Wagner hasn't seen or done during his illustrious playing career. The future Pro Football Hall of Famer - likely on the first ballot - is one of the best middle linebackers of the modern era. He's also wasted no time in making his presence felt across the Washington Commanders after signing in free agency, which is exactly what head coach Dan Quinn wanted from one of the league's most respected figures.

Wagner's been on hand to lend advice and guidance to anyone who asks. Frankie Luvu and Sam Cosmi have spoken about how beneficial it's been to get insight from the perennial All-Pro and nine-time Pro Bowler. The former second-round pick also likes what he sees in terms of the improved atmosphere across the organization based on his comments to the media after Wednesday's OTA session.

"I think we've got a really cool room. From coach [Ken] Norton down, it's a great group of guys. Smart, fast, wanna hit, wanna learn, wanna take charge of the defense. So I'm excited for whenever we put the pads on to start making plays. The biggest thing is getting to know the people. From everyone who plays to the chefs. That's the biggest thing, creating that rapport because football is gonna be football but it's the teams that grow closest - that come together - I feel at the end of the season are most pleased with their results."

Re-establishing the culture was always going to be one of the biggest priorities for the Commanders despite how pleased Ron Rivera was with the way he went about his business in that regard. Wagner's comments are another sign that things are trending up at long last.

Wagner commands instant respect thanks to his accomplishments and the way he plays the game. He's someone others naturally follow, which is the sort of inspiration Washington perhaps lacked across the board when things weren't going well previously.

Hopefully, this is just the start of great things to come.
