Jason Wright on Commanders stadium plans

Unless something drastic occurs in the coming weeks, the Washington Commanders will fall under new ownership before the 2023 season. Josh Harris' group still has to go through formal protocols and an official vote of approval from other NFL owners, but it would take a monumental shift to alter this current path and remove Dan Snyder completely from the equation.

Among the more pressing priorities for Harris and his investors once the transaction gets the green light is solidifying plans for a new stadium. There is reportedly more interest than ever without Snyder's abysmal reputation getting in the way, which was something highlighted recently by team president Jason Wright via Yahoo Sports.

"For us who have been talking to folks in the community behind the scenes, we’ve known that there’s positive engagement and enthusiasm for the potential, again, across all areas. What I like about it is leaders are articulating a vision that we can get behind because that’s been what we’ve said all along. The best thing that we can do is get behind a vision of local leaders who know how to best develop this community economically and socially."

A recent prospectus leak regarding the sale obtained by ESPN claimed the Commanders have been offered $1.5 billion of public money from Virginia to build their new stadium. Others want the team to return to its roots and upgrade the RFK Stadium site that was home to some of the franchise's greatest moments.

Either way, it's all encouraging. But whether Wright will be around to oversee such an ambitious project is the big question.
