Commanders QB Sam Howell tipped for breakout 2023

No matter how much talent the Washington Commanders have on both sides of the football, their fortunes likely rest on the shoulders of Sam Howell next season. This is a quarterback-driven league, so head coach Ron Rivera's faith in the former fifth-round selection must be repaid as a matter of urgency in 2023.

Confidence is high despite Howell's lack of experience. Washington has weapons at the skill positions and an offensive coordinator in Eric Bieniemy that can take the Commanders to even greater heights moving forward.

This was a sentiment echoed by Jordan Epp from Yardbarker, who named Howell as one of his four second-year breakout candidates. Whether the North Carolina product can live up to this hype is another matter.

"With a year of learning the Commanders' system, Howell is in a better situation to be a starter now than as a rookie. The Commanders also prioritized upgrading the offensive line over the offseason. Combine that with the fact that wide receivers Terry McLaurin and Jahan Dotson are tailor-made threats on the outside for Howell's big-armed skill set, and the Commanders could have a trio of sophomore stars when including running back Brian Robinson Jr."
