Commanders practice squad features one surprising name
No sooner had the Washington Commanders made their initial 53-man roster public knowledge than preparations began to form regarding their practice squad additions. These places are normally filled by those who've been around the set-up throughout the offseason, which proved to be the case as head coach Ron Rivera looks to keep continuity in the event players need to be called up for whatever reason.
However, there was reportedly one name that was coveted from outside the organization. According to Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network, the Commanders convinced linebacker Jabril Cox to join the ranks instead of remaining part of the Dallas Cowboys' set-up, which probably means he's been promised involvement on the roster once the former LSU stud gets to grips with Jack Del Rio's defensive scheme.
Here is the full practice squad list of 16 players:
- QB Jake Fromm
- RB Derrick Gore
- RB/TE Alex Armah
- WR Kazmeir Allen
- WR Brycen Tremayne
- OL Mason Brooks
- OL Nolan Laufenberg
- OT Alex Akingbulu
- OT Jaryd Jones-Smith
- DE William Bradley-King
- DT Benning Potoa’e
- LB De’Jon Harris
- LB Jabril Cox
- CB Nick Whiteside
- CB Tariq Castro-Fields
- S Terrell Burgess
This is a fluid situation as general manager Martin Mayhew suggested. Players will come and go as the campaign progresses, but the primary objective will be to develop those young players on the practice squad to a level where those in power feel confident about their chances when called into the 53.
