Commanders QB Jacoby Brissett linked with trade

The NFL world was rocked to its core after four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles during his competitive debut for the New York Jets. Something that rules him out for the entire campaign and could bring an end to a Pro Football Hall of Fame career given his age and the extensive rehabilitation ahead.

Big things were expected of the Jets with Rodgers under center. Hopes are less high with Zach Wilson, which could lead Gang Green into another bold move at the position to ensure minimum momentum is lost.

When discussing which signal-caller makes the most sense, Jordan Reid of ESPN hinted that a trade for Washington Commanders quarterback Jacoby Brissett makes plenty of sense. Whether it's something Ron Rivera would entertain is another matter.

"I think the Jets will give Zach Wilson a couple of weeks to show improvement. If not, to me, the most realistic trade option should be Jacoby Brissett. Not a ceiling raiser, but he’s someone that at least gives you a chance to keep the ship afloat. The interesting part and other angle to all of this though is would Washington even entertain a trade for him with Howell still being an unknown? Tough situation for the Jets to be in."

Much would depend on the compensation, but it's probably worth keeping Brissett around as a mentor for Howell during his first season as the team's starting quarterback. But there's no doubt he'd jump at the chance to step into Rodgers' shoes in this scenario.
