Commanders QB Sam Howell praised

Sam Howell is looking to cement his status as the Washington Commanders starting quarterback long-term over the team's remaining four games. Landmark changes to staffing infrastructure are coming once the 2023 campaign concludes. This puts almost everyone on the chopping block with a fresh set of ideas coming into the fold.

Howell is catching the eye of coaches around the league after making a decent start to life as a No. 1 option. The latest to heap praise on the signal-caller was Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay, who's been impressed by the former fifth-round pick's growth based on comments via Pro Football Talk.

"Oh yeah, he’s a baller. This guy’s got the ability to create. You can see he sees the field well. He can get through progressions quickly. He can make all the throws. He dissects and recognizes coverage contours quickly and he’s able to deliver the ball accurately. And then when things do go off schedule, he’s got the athleticism and the escape ability to buy time, keep his eyes down the field, and you can see guys understand how to be able to work with him. And they got playmakers all around. Coach [Eric] Bieniemy does a nice job being able to spread the field, but I’m super impressed."

This game might turn into a shootout based on how the Rams like to put up points quickly on home turf. Howell's proven more than capable of doing the same with enough time in the pocket. Whether he'll get that this weekend behind Washington's suspect offensive line is another matter.
