Commanders News: Eric Bieniemy, Sam Howell, Logan Thomas and Jalen Hurts

Commanders TE Logan Thomas' importance
Some good news has emerged from the Washington Commanders this week regarding the status of Logan Thomas. The Virginia Tech product missed last weekend's clash against the Buffalo Bills with a concussion, but he was listed as a full participant in practice on Thursday and should be good to go at the Philadelphia Eagles barring any late setback.
Thomas is an important part of Eric Bieniemy's scheme and a trusted target of quarterback Sam Howell in key moments. And it's clear from the signal-caller's comments via Sports Illustrated that he's relishing the prospect of getting his No. 1 tight end back into the lineup.
"We love to have Logan out there, and he's a tremendous player for us. But at the same time, we love all our tight ends. I think [TE] Cole [Turner] has done a good job of stepping in and filling that void of being a good pass catcher. When [TE John] Bates has been thrown the ball, he's done a good job with it. Everyone knows what he's capable of doing in the running game and pass protection, but we love all our tight ends. But yeah, definitely missing Logan out there."

While Turner and Bates still have upside, Thomas is the seasoned pro who'll be counted upon heavily as the campaign goes on. The Commanders are likely going to find themselves in some sticky situations against a tremendous Philadelphia defense, so Howell can relax safe in the knowledge there will be an extra security blanket across the middle and in the red one to utilize when the situation dictates.
