Sam Howell not focusing on Commanders future
Sam Howell's benching in Week 15 at the Los Angeles Rams led to fresh speculation about what might come next for the quarterback. It looked for a long time as if the Washington Commanders had finally found their franchise-caliber presence under center. After some concerning performances in recent weeks, the jury is still out.
Howell's getting more questions than ever before about his future beyond the current campaign. But it's pretty clear he's still taking things one week at a time based on comments via Pro Football Talk.
"I honestly don’t really look at it much. It really doesn’t mean anything right now and I think what matters is how I play each and every week. Obviously, you can worry all year long about what’s going to happen next year, but for me, I just kind of take the approach of taking it one week at a time and really try to focus in and do everything I can on a week-to-week basis to play my best football. Just because obviously there’s a lot of questions about what’s going to happen after this year, but I feel like if I’m playing my best football at a consistent rate, then those questions won’t be there."

The former fifth-round pick needs to shake it off and get back to the fearless gunslinger fans witnessed earlier in the campaign. There is added pressure on Howell after getting sat down for his own good last time around. It's a huge test of the player's resolve. One he must come through with flying colors versus a stout New York Jets pass defense.
