Commanders News: Emmanuel Forbes, Sam Howell, Ron Rivera and power rankings

Commanders CB Emmanuel Forbes' playing time
Emmanuel Forbes' rookie season has been a complete disaster. The cornerback cut a forlorn figure on the sidelines in Week 15 at the Los Angeles Rams, watching on as the Washington Commanders defense gave up more big plays en route to their 10th loss of the campaign.
Many thought the release of veteran cornerback Danny Johnson earlier in the week indicated more playing time was on the way for Forbes. That didn't prove to be the case, which Ron Rivera stated was down to the matchups rather than a lack of belief in the first-round pick based on comments via Sports Illustrated.
"That was a lot more about what [DB] Quan [Martin] was doing and really what we had as a matchup going into this game."

This is a borderline disgrace in all honesty. The Commanders have nothing to play for. Nothing. Denying Forbes valuable reps in a competitive setting is harming his development. Whether he struggles or not is moot - the former Mississippi State star needs to play and learn by doing.
Rivera has been slammed for some indifferent high-end draft picks throughout his tenure. For most sections of Washington's fanbase, it'll be a relief to know he won't have the benefit of selecting with the bounty of selections accumulated by the Commanders in 2024.
As for Forbes, the jury is still out. But the Commanders need to find out one way or another over their remaining three games.
