Commanders QB Sam Howell's even-keel

Sam Howell continues to demonstrate the credentials normally associated with productive NFL starting quarterbacks. Another superb outing at the New England Patriots came with claims from the head coach and established veterans that the team had finally found its franchise presence under center - a situation that could have lingering implications about how Josh Harris' ownership group approaches the 2024 offseason.

Plenty of adulation is coming Howell's way and rightfully so. However, the former fifth-round selection out of North Carolina is still taking things week by week and letting the chips fall where they may after that based on comments via The Comeback.

"I want to be the quarterback here for a really long time. But how I’m going to get to that point is taking it one day at a time. That’s the way I look at it. I never worry about the future."

Howell has displayed tremendous growth through nine games. The latest encouraging traits to develop are pocket presence, manipulation, and overall decision-making - so it's clear Eric Bieniemy and quarterbacks coach Tavita Pritchard are getting through to the young signal-caller in the best possible way.

Coping with the loud, hostile atmosphere that Lumen Field provides will be another steep test for Howell. If he passes with flying colors, that might be all Harris and his team of wealth investors need to see.
