Commanders assessment of Sam Howell

We'll find out more about the resolve residing within Sam Howell this weekend. The Washington Commanders quarterback endured some real hardship against the Buffalo Bills last time out, with careless decisions and suspect protection playing a lead role in the team's eventual demise.

Howell's said all the right things this week in regards to putting things right. But actions will speak much louder than words at the Philadelphia Eagles in the face of their formidable defensive front.

When discussing Howell during his media availability this week, Eric Bieniemy stated he still sees the former fifth-round selection as a rookie based on his comments via Sports Illustrated. However, the play-caller is confident that he can learn from his mistakes and maintain the fighting qualities that got him this far.

"Well, he's a second-year player, but he's a rookie quarterback, I'll keep using this line as long as I'm up here. Sometimes that's the first time things have happened to him and so you have to understand he's going through that experience. The best thing Sam did that game is that he played his way through it. That way, now, he can find out the good that he did, the bad that he did, and the indecisiveness that he did. But those things happen. No one wants to go out there and perform in that manner. But one thing I am proud of, I'm proud of the kid because yes, he did have some sparks."

Howell needs help, there's no getting away from that. But if Bieniemy can find the right balance and the Commanders' offensive line also raises their production, the North Carolina product could surprise a few.
