Commanders draft standing

After another loss and results elsewhere, the Washington Commanders' draft standing has improved. Something that could change their offseason dynamic depending on what a new general manager and head coach decide.

As it stands right now according to Tankathon, the Commanders have the No. 5 overall selection in the 2024 NFL Draft. This could improve even further when one considers the difficult games upcoming for Washington down the stretch.

Anything in the top three or four puts a quarterback into the conversation. Sam Howell's growth has been notable and worthy of taking another look in 2024, but a different regime could have a completely different evaluation of the signal-caller when it's all said and done.

Here's where things stand from a draft standpoint:

  • Round No. 1 (Pick No. 5)
  • Round No. 2 (Pick No. 36) - from Chicago
  • Round No. 2 (Pick No. 38)
  • Round No. 3 (Pick No. 69)
  • Round No. 3 (Pick No. 100) - from San Francisco
  • Round No. 4 (Pick No. 106)
  • Round No. 5 (Pick No 140)
  • Round No. 6 (Pick No. 183)
  • Round No. 7 (Pick No. 224)

All this draft capital coupled with an abundance of salary-cap space to further strengthen the ranks only makes the Commanders' upcoming vacancies more attractive. Many are shooting for Washington as a potential destination according to Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports, but picking the right people will be crucial.
