Dan Quinn on Commanders' draft plans
It's no secret that the Washington Commanders are examining all the top quarterbacks heading into the 2024 NFL Draft. They have the No. 2 pick and six selections in the top 100. This is a strong spot for those in power to operate from, but getting their choices right is of critical importance.
Trading Sam Howell to the Seattle Seahawks and signing veteran backup Marcus Mariota further lent weight to the claims that a signal-caller will be the pick when the Commanders go on the clock. This was all but acknowledged by head coach Dan Quinn based on comments via the Bleacher Report. However, he was keen to point out that discussions are ongoing.
"I would say it'd be fair to envision we'd be taking a quarterback. To say where it'll be happening, I think that's a better question for (general manager) Adam (Peters). As the next weeks unfold, there'll be a lot of discussion, and that's why we've had a great trip out seeing some guys, we'll do that some more in the weeks ahead, but I've enjoyed that process with Adam, and going through it. He's somebody that is an absolute expert at this position, what it looks like, where to go, and so going through that process has been really cool."

The Commanders have received calls to trade back, but the consensus seems to suggest they'll stand pat at No. 2. Caleb Williams looks destined for the Chicago Bears, so it's a fight between Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye, or perhaps even J.J. McCarthy for the second spot.
