Commanders linked with Drake Maye (again)

There is wild speculation about what the Washington Commanders are going to do from No. 2 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft. Many think a trade-up for Caleb Williams is possible. Moving down for additional assets cannot be ruled out. However, standing pat seems like the most realistic avenue until further notice.

This has led to fierce debates about who would be best suited to lead the Commanders back to prominence. Some believe that Jayden Daniels has the X-factor qualities needed following a phenomenal final college campaign at LSU. Others - including Cody Spears from NFL Mocks - have Washington selecting North Carolina phenom Drake Maye once Williams comes off the board.

"After being benched in 2023, Sam Howell became an afterthought. In comes Drake Maye's ability to extend plays and accurately deliver the ball. Those instincts will make up for the young and inexperienced offensive line that the team hopes to build on later in this draft."

Maye has all the physical attributes normally associated with productive NFL quarterbacks. He can make effortless throws to all three levels of the field. His pocket navigation is improving. There is a lot to like about his escapability when routes aren't developing as anticipated. Simply put, he looks like a franchise signal-caller at the next level.

There is a long way to go and a lot of evaluations left to do. But all signs point to either Maye or Daniels being under center in 2024 unless the Commanders decide to go bolder.
