Commanders news: Dan Quinn, Drake Maye, Anthony Lynn and Caleb Williams

Commanders trade-up rumor reignites
While the consensus seems to believe Caleb Williams will be the No. 1 pick chosen by the Chicago Bears, nothing has been confirmed one way or another. The quarterback won't participate in drills at the NFL Scouting Combine - which could do more harm than good in all honesty. But that doesn't detract from what enticing attributes he brings to the table.
Legendary columnist Peter King from NBC Sports threw one final spanner in the works before a well-deserved retirement. The writer believes Chicago could trade out of the top spot for a second straight year. He freely admitted to having no inside knowledge of the situation, but striking deals with the Washington Commanders and Atlanta Falcons would give the NFC North outfit a king's ransom to build around Justin Fields.
"I suppose the Bears are going to trade the top pick. I know nothing, but that seems to be the way the wind is blowing. What I say: The Bears could keep Justin Fields (and should), and trade the first pick down once or twice, and build the kind of supporting cast a team needs to contend. Suppose GM Ryan Poles traded the top pick down one spot to Washington (which would take Caleb Williams), and got the second pick, a second-round pick and a 2025 first-round pick in return. Then suppose Poles traded the second pick to Atlanta at eight, and the Falcons picked one of the other quarterbacks. In return, Chicago gets the eighth pick, Atlanta’s second-round pick, and first- and second-round picks next year."
- Peter King, NBC Sports
This got the fanbases of all three teams in a stir. King's been around the block a few times. He knows how things work. His opinion is highly respected. Dropping this tidbit before putting away the laptop for good could be significant. Thankfully, we won't have much longer to wait for official confirmation.
