Leading analyst mocks Drake Maye to Commanders

The biggest conundrum facing the Washington Commanders this offseason surrounds the quarterback position. Some fans want to run it back with Sam Howell and surround the signal-caller with a better-supporting cast. With a new front-office leader and coaching staff, that appears unlikely.

This bears more significance when one considers the Commanders have the No. 2 overall selection in the 2024 NFL Draft. Even if Caleb Williams goes No. 1 as expected, general manager Adam Peters has two potential options available who could spearhead the franchise into a more profitable future.

Jayden Daniels is gaining momentum at the right time after winning the Heisman Trophy. Daniel Jeremiah from NFL.com believes the pick should be Drake Maye. He also anticipates the Commanders receiving some notable trade offers for the selection from others in the quarterback market.

"I’m sure Washington will have attractive trade offers for this pick, but new general manager Adam Peters and head coach Dan Quinn get their quarterback of the future."

Maye has the intangibles normally associated with productive NFL quarterbacks. He's not the finished article just yet, but nobody expects him to be. If the Commanders genuinely believe in the player's potential, they have the right coaching staff in place to mold the prospect into a productive presence under center.

Nothing is off the table. But it would be a shock if the Commanders didn't go down the draft route.
