Commanders made the right hire in Dan Quinn

Dan Quinn wasn't everyone's choice to become Washington Commanders head coach. He's more than qualified. But getting a retread when there were so many progressive young coaches available was seen as an underwhelming hire by many.

Quinn is eager to maximize this second chance at a top job. He's left a positive impression and got right to work in pursuit of hitting the ground running. There also seems to be an immediate connection between the head coach and general manager Adam Peters, which is another huge positive.

Rick Spielman - who was part of the Commanders' hiring committee - is confident Quinn is the right man at this important stage in Washington's franchise history. The former Minnesota Vikings general manager also believes this new power tandem can lead one of the NFL's storied franchises to great things based on comments via the team's website.

"There's no question. Just off his press conference. He's a leader of men. I think that's exactly what Josh and [general manager] Adam [Peters] were looking for in a head coach. I think it's going to be great for the Commanders, great for the fans because of everything that he is as a coach now [comes from] what he's learned through the process and how he corrected himself on some mistakes that he did make."

Talk is cheap, of course. But thankfully for Washington's long-suffering fanbase, Quinn seems to be a man of action.
