Commanders had interest in Bill Belichick

Despite a quarter of the NFL looking for new head coaches during this cycle, the greatest of all time was left on the outside looking in. Bill Belichick didn't get the immediate return to work he was hoping for after parting ways with the New England Patriots. The Atlanta Falcons reportedly came close to making him their guy but opted for Raheem Morris instead when push came to shove.

The Washington Commanders were linked with Belichick early. This momentum faded after that as local beat writers claimed it was never really an option. However, a new report from Dianna Russini of The Athletic revealed those in power had spoken to the perennial Super Bowl winner. He also had some fans within the building for good measure.

"During the hiring process in Washington, Bill Belichick was considered for the job, per sources. The Commanders spoke with him and he had support from some decision makers. In the end, Dan Quinn is their choice."

This is an interesting development, to say the least. Many believed that Belichick was simply not an option as the Commanders looked to hire someone younger and more progressive. After every young coordinator went in a different direction or stayed put, it left Josh Harris with no option other than to make Dan Quinn the man.

Would Belichick have been a better option? It's way too early to say, but it's only going to raise pressure on the former Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator to make a strong start.
