Commanders TE boosts Sam Howell

Sam Howell's made believers out of his teammates throughout early off-season workouts so far. The quarterback looks set to become the Washington Commanders' starting quarterback in Week 1 barring a significant regression at training camp, which is a big call for head coach Ron Rivera with his job on the line in 2023.

One notable connection Howell developed throughout OTAs and mandatory minicamp is with Logan Thomas. The Commanders need their veteran tight end fit and firing on all cylinders this season, especially considering they won't have Armani Rogers to call upon after the promising youngster tore his Achilles and is out for the year.

When discussing Howell's credentials during an appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio, Thomas stated via Yahoo Sports that the former North Carolina star's ability to adjust has set him apart to date. Something that should provide the 2022 fifth-round selection with another big boost before training camp.

"Sam’s a baller. It’s a lot of fun to play with him ’cause he kinda has a like mind of someone who is not exactly a quarterback. He sees the field from like a receiver’s standpoint. And obviously, when he runs the ball, he sees it from a running backs standpoint. He’s special in that regard, and I’m excited to see what he can do. He throws a very catchable ball. None of the receivers, tight ends have had any problem catching it."

Many thought Thomas could become a cut candidate after another underwhelming campaign last season. That is not going to happen at this juncture, so if the Virginia Tech product can stay healthy and immerse himself in Eric Bieniemy's tight-end friendly scheme, the numbers should follow.
