Commanders HC Ron Rivera lauds Chase Young

As previously stated, the Washington Commanders will have Chase Young on the field in some capacity in Week 2 at the Denver Broncos. This will provide the player and everyone within the locker room with a massive boost ahead of a tough but winnable fixture early in the campaign.

Everyone across the Commanders franchise is desperate for Young to succeed. Even though Ron Rivera took the difficult decision to reject the defensive end's fifth-year opinion, the head coach lauded the way he's approached another setback in recent weeks via the team's website on Friday.

"Yes, very positive. A lot of good things throughout the week and there's a lot of confidence. Obviously, we have to be smart because it is his first introduction to full contact, full speed contact, other than what he had in practice this week. He had a very good week. The young man has worked his tail off and I think he's done the things that they've needed to see. That's the real big positive for us going forward."

If Young can get back to anything like the form he displayed as a rookie in 2020, then the Commanders have the best defensive line in football. He might not ever reach the generational qualities projected in most of his pre-draft assessments, but Rovera doesn't need a superhero considering the presence of Jonathan Allen, Daron Payne, and Montez Sweat along the front four.

They just need Young available. That's it.
