Commanders DE Chase Young ready to rock

While an initial report from Ben Standig of The Athletic indicated that Chase Young might be missing until Week 3 thanks to a severe stinger suffered during the Washington Commanders' opening preseason game, some positive developments over the last couple of days shifted the narrative. After the defensive end came through his first contact practices since getting official medical clearance, head coach Ron Rivera stated that the physical pass-rusher would be active in Week 2 at the Denver Broncos.

This is a nice surprise that not many saw coming. Young's endured some rough luck on the injury front over the last two years, so this represents a huge step in the right direction as the former No. 2 overall selection looks to start silencing some ever-increasing doubters.

When speaking to reporters after the news was confirmed, Young was clearly thrilled to finally get the green light based on his comments via Sports Illustrated. The Ohio State product also hinted that this is the time when we're going to see his best football.

"I'm feeling blessed, man. Ready to rock. Obviously I want to play every game…but it’s all good - my time will come. Now it’s time to go play, so I’m definitely just blessed to be out there."

This might not happen right away. The Commanders will likely have Young on a pitch count, but what's important for the edge presence is contributing significantly when his number is called.

That, above all else, will be the best possible platform for when his involvement increases.
