Commanders DE Montez Sweat poised to dominate

The upcoming season is a big one for Montez Sweat. His contract status alone indicates an increased level of urgency for the defensive end, who'll want to prove worthy of a whopping financial commitment long-term with another outstanding year.

This could be a complicated situation for the Washington Commanders if Chase Young bounces back. Keeping both around isn't out of the realm of possibility, but this could come down to who performs best in 2023 when push comes to shove.

When discussing Sweat on the Command Center podcast, former wide receiver Santana Moss stated via USA Today Sports that people keep sleeping on the former Mississippi State standout. However, there is enough evidence to suggest a dominant campaign could be in the offing next season.

"If you watched closely, these guys play last year, [Montez] Sweat was so close. He could’ve easily had so many more sacks. So many other guys that we talk about, the guys on the inside [Daron Payne and Jonathan Allen], we talk about Chase Young, and Sweat is just out there making plays every time."

This sentiment was echoed by Logan Paulsen, who tipped Sweat to set the foundation with a big year. Something that could make him a very wealthy man along the way with his market value currently calculated at $16.6 million per season according to Spotrac.
