Commanders WR Jahan Dotson's potential

With Terry McLaurin's status for Week 1 in some doubt, the Washington Commanders will be relying on their other pass-catchers to step up and make their presences felt. In particular, second-year wide receiver Jahan Dotson.

The Commanders are expecting Dotson to take a significant leap forward in 2023. His eye-catching rookie campaign coupled with the presence of Eric Bieniemy means the first 1,000-yard receiving season of his professional career might be on the way if everything goes according to plan for the Penn State product.

Kevin Patra from Around the NFL went one step further, naming Dotson as a potential All-Pro next season. That is a lofty goal to aim for, but is a testament to the immense upside surrounding the wideout under Bieniemy's exceptional guidance.

"Commanders WR Terry McLaurin had to wait far too long to earn his first Pro Bowl nod. Dotson might not suffer the same fate. After a wobbly, injury-infested start to his rookie season, Dotson came on strong down the stretch, making 16 catches for 290 yards and two TDs in the season's final four games. With vice-grip hands, Dotson could grow into a scoring machine after leading Washington with seven receiving TDs in just 12 games played last season. Dotson owns the natural ability to stack numbers, and with defenses focused on McLaurin, the second-year WR could feast."

The NFL is blessed with some outstanding pass-catchers who would be more fancied to gain All-Pro honors. But that doesn't mean Dotson cannot start creeping up into the elite company if quarterback Sam Howell meets his end of the bargain.
