Commanders DE Chase Young's status
After taking weeks to recover from a severe stinger suffered during the first preseason game against the Cleveland Browns, defensive end Chase Young is officially listed as questionable for Week 1 versus the Arizona Cardinals. And it appears as if his chances to play rest squarely on the shoulders of an important doctor's meeting that took place on Friday afternoon.
Ron Rivera revealed that Young hasn't been cleared for contact as yet, but the former No. 2 overall selection is in supreme physical shape after being permitted to do everything else regarding preparations. We'll probably get more developments later today and hopefully, this will be positive for a player that's endured some rough luck over the last two years.
After missing so much time and not having his fifth-year option picked up, the last thing Young needs is to start such a crucial personal campaign on the sidelines. However, the decision is ultimately out of his hands according to Rivera via the team's website.
"He's doing everything he can to get himself ready to play. We have reps scripted for him. We have certain periods that he can participate in and again, it's gonna be all up to what happens with the doctor's visit that he has coming up soon and we'll go from there. But the young man is chomping at the bit. He's done everything that he possibly could and he's getting himself ready to play. Again, if he's cleared, he'll go."Ron Rivera via Commanders.com
Young is raring to go and the Commanders have plans in place should he receive clearance. But there's just no telling for sure until official confirmation arrives.
