Patrick Mahomes' excitement for Commanders

Even though it was a modest offseason in terms of player recruitment with the ownership in flux, the Washington Commanders managed to make one big coaching staff acquisition that has the scope to completely shift the landscape. Eric Bieniemy's decision to leave the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs comes with endless intrigue - something Ron Rivera is hoping provides the catalyst behind better offensive fortunes during a make-or-break campaign for the head coach.

Bieniemy has already left a mark and training camp will see his vocal intensity raised further to ensure his players are fully prepared for their Week 1 clash against the Arizona Cardinals and beyond. Much will depend on Sam Howell and whether Washington's revamped offensive line comes together, but hopes are high with such a respected mind leading the charge.

When discussing Bieniemy recently, quarterback Patrick Mahomes stated via the Associated Press and Sports Illustrated that it'll be tough not having his counsel. But the reigning NFL MVP is excited for the Commanders knowing the credentials he brings to the table.

"It’s definitely going to be different. He was a voice that has been in this locker room my entire career. And, so, to lose that voice, I mean, I’m excited for Washington because I know how inspiring that he can be and how smart he was for us. It’s definitely going to be tough losing him. I have so much respect for EB, he’s such a great coach but a great person."

This is the latest in a series of glowing endorsements from high-profile figures surrounding Bieniemy. Hopefully, the coach lives up to such lofty hype next season en route to potentially becoming an NFL head coach during the next cycle.
