Eric Bieniemy's influence on Commanders OTAs

When the Washington Commanders convinced Eric Bieniemy to leave the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs, it took a lot of money and the promise of much more responsibility. This has been evident throughout the offseason with staff changes, personnel moves, and the offensive game plan devised by one of the most respected figures around.

Bieniemy has been noticeably vocal throughout OTAs. He demands a high tempo and is holding even the most established stars accountable for their on-field actions, which is a refreshing change of pace to what's been evident previously throughout Ron Rivera's head coaching tenure in Washington.

When asked about Bieniemy's role, the head coach said via Kevin Harrish of The Comeback that the new arrival is thriving with extra tasks and more say in how things are being implemented day-to-day on the practice field. Something that is befitting due to his assistant head coach title.

"I gave him the opportunity to script a lot of things we’re doing, handling all the scheduling. That’s why things are different, that’s why we’re not on the field already, because of some of the things he wanted to change and wanted to work on. I don’t believe you give the assistant head coach title and it’s gratuitous. It’s not just a title. It’s a working title. He’s doing those things and he’s got those responsibilities, and I think he relishes it. He’s one of those guys who very few people are going to out-work."

It doesn't take a genius to figure out that the players are fully behind Bieniemy. They want to taste success and if everything goes well, his presence calling plays could be the final piece of the puzzle to ignite this once-proud franchise back to prominence.
