By Dean Jones
Which Washington Commanders news stories are hitting the headlines as preparations continue to progress encouragingly ahead of the 2023 season?
As the Washington Commanders embark on their third and last OTA session of this week's program later today (Thursday), attention is focusing on football with the NFL spring owners' meetings now in the rearview mirror. A welcome change of pace for everyone associated with the franchise after another offseason period full of drama and speculation.
As expected, the ramped-up preparations have brought some decent tidbits to further examine. Among the stories provoking debate recently include Chase Young's future, Emmanuel Forbes catching the eye, Phidarian Mathis getting a major seal of approval, and Eric Bieniemy's increasing influence.
Let's delve into each topic in more detail.
Commanders CB Emmanuel Forbes continues to impress
Many were shocked when the Washington Commanders selected Emmanuel Forbes at No. 16 overall in the 2023 NFL Draft. But the cornerback has wasted no time making his presence felt where it counts over the team's early offseason workouts.
The former Mississippi State star continued to enhance his ballhawk credentials with his second practice interception to date. According to those in attendance, Forbes broke a Marcus Kemp route perfectly before bringing in a Jake Fromm throw, which drew widespread praise from his teammates and was clearly another big confidence boost for the rookie.
Forbes got worked once or twice by Terry McLaurin on Tuesday, which is something even the elite cornerbacks concede against such a prolific performer. But one cannot look at his performance levels so far with anything other than encouragement.
