Potential Commanders' OC candidate

One of the first tasks for Ben Johnson or whoever takes the Washington Commanders' head coaching job is to mold the right staff. They must have proven credentials and mesh well immediately as part of general manager Adam Peters' aligned vision for the franchise moving forward.

If the hire is Johnson as expected, the offensive coordinator won't be calling plays. This could lead the Commanders to offensive line coach Hank Fraley according to Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, who tipped the respected coach to follow his current play-caller based on comments via Sports Illustrated.

"It is very possible that the Detroit Lions go into next season, whenever this season ends, needing two new coordinators. Also worth noting Lions offensive line coach Hank Fraley could end up following Johnson wherever he goes as Johnson’s offensive coordinator."

Considering the Commanders' offensive line remains one of the biggest complications, this move makes a ton of sense if Johnson is the guy. Fraley is a no-nonsense individual who brings the best out of his players. He'll need to get everyone on the same quickly with big personnel alterations anticipated, but the previous working relationship between the two should stand them in good stead.

Exciting times ahead for the Commanders. But this scenario is almost entirely dependent on Johnson taking the reins.
