Commanders make Jayden Daniels' dreams come true in 2025 NFL mock draft
By Dean Jones
The Washington Commanders are currently navigating the early stages of their 2024 season. There have been plenty of positives through the opening fortnight, but some glaring flaws continue to complicate matters and must be rectified as a matter of urgency.
This won't be going unnoticed by general manager Adam Peters. He'll be constantly assessing each position group throughout the campaign before hard work starts during the second offseason of his grand rebuilding project. The new front-office leader is already stockpiling draft picks to put the Commanders in a strong position.
According to Tankathon, the Commanders have 10 selections at their disposal across the seven rounds. Needs will alter dramatically depending on what unfolds over the next 15 games. Much will also depend on how Washington approaches free agency given the vast resources available.
Commanders select Will Campbell in 2025 NFL mock draft
Draft analysts are already speculating which prospects could end up where. Rob Rang from FOX Sports had the Commanders picking at No. 6 overall in his latest mock. The choice? Standout offensive tackle Will Campbell.
"The 6-foot-6, 320-pound Campbell (along with right tackle Emery Jones) played a critical but underrated role in Jayden Daniels' run to the Heisman Trophy, so why not pair Daniels with one of his linemen again in the nation's capitol? An immediate standout who earned second team All-SEC honors as a true freshman, Campbell ascended to first team honors in 2023, showing off size, agility and strength to warrant a top-10 selection for a club that needs help on the offensive line."

Campbell is an old teammate of Jayden Daniels at LSU and is emerging into one of college football's most dominant blindside protectors. His unique blend of size and athleticism makes him a prospect with Day 1 starting potential. The benefits of having someone who knows the signal-caller should allow for a smooth transition if the Commanders go in this direction.
The Commanders spent a third-round selection on Brandon Coleman to hopefully solve their left tackle issue. He's not locked in as the confirmed starter yet, with his difficult outing versus the New York Giants hinting there is a lot of hard work ahead before this scenario comes to fruition.
With veteran Andrew Wylie looking like a prime salary-cap cut candidate next spring, the Commanders could move Coleman to the right-hand side and slot Campbell in on the blindside if this was the play. That potentially provides Washington and its franchise quarterback with a young bookend tackle tandem who could grow together.
Other more pressing priorities will also be considered. The Commanders are in desperate need of an explosive edge rusher after trading Montez Sweat and Chase Young before the 2023 deadline. Their outside cornerback options aren't exactly stellar, made worse by the fact Benjamin St-Juste is set to become a free agent.
Peters will have a plan in place. He's a respected talent evaluator and is working with the future in mind. If he feels like Campbell is the best prospect available when Washington goes on the clock, the former San Francisco 49ers executive won't hesitate to pull the trigger.
And make no mistake, nobody would be happier than Daniels.
