Commanders 2024 NFC East division odds (Can Washington compete against Eagles and Cowboys?)
The Washington Commanders had a rough 2023 campaign. After starting the season 2-0, they won just two more games the rest of the season to finish 4-13.
The good news is, they've found out Sam Howell isn't the quarterback of the future and has shipped him off to Seattle. Now, the Commanders hold the No. 2 pick in the draft and will likely draft a top quarterback prospect in hopes of becoming the cornerstone of the franchise.
Is a rookie quarterback enough to make them legitimate competition to the top dogs in the NFC East? Let's find out what the oddsmakers think.

Commanders not expected to compete in NFC East in 2024
The Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles set atop the odds list to win the NFC East at +120 and +135 respectively. Then there's the New York Giants and Commanders who are tied at the bottom at +900.
If you translate those odds to implied probability, the Commanders have a 10% chance of winning the division in 2024. If you were to bet $100 on them to pull it off, you'd win a profit of $900 if they're able to achieve the improbable.
The Commanders are going to usher in a new era with a new quarterback in 2024, but the team has a lot of other holes they need to fill before they can honestly be considered contenders in the division. Washington's defense was the worst in the NFL in 2023, giving up 30.5 points per game, which was 3.7 more points than the next worst team.
They also gave up the most yards per game, allowing their opponents to average 388.9 yards of offense against them. So, even if they get an elite rookie quarterback, their defense is likely to hold them back in 2024.
The good news is they've made some solid signings on the defensive side of the ball, including acquiring S Jeremy Chinn, LB Bobby Wagner, and edge rusher Dorance Armstrong. That's going to move their defense in the right direction, but will it be enough to allow them to challenge the likes of the Cowboys and Eagles? Time will tell.
