Commanders could hire Bobby Slowik

  • Offensive Coordinator | Houston Texans

Bobby Slowik has ties to the Washington Commanders. His first NFL job - when he was just 24 years old - was with the franchise, for whom he served as a defensive assistant under Jim Haslett from 2011-2013.

After a brief hiatus working as an analyst for Pro Football Focus, Slowik rejoined the Shanahan family - Mike had been the one to hire him in Washington. He came to the San Francisco 49ers as a defensive coach, but soon transitioned to offense, where he learned under Kyle Shanahan.

Slowik eventually became the passing game coordinator until being hired as the Houston Texans' offensive coordinator this year. He has already had great success with rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud as the team continues to show impressive growth under new head coach DeMeco Ryans.

He is just 36 years old but already has extensive experience on both sides of the ball. Perhaps more importantly, Slowik also boasts a background in analytics, which is becoming more and more of an asset.

Slowik will be a head coach one day. Is it too early? Only time will tell on that front, but the Commanders could do far worse if the Texans offense demonstrates further growth over the second half of 2023.

And at the end of the day. If you're good enough, you're old enough.
