7 wide receiver prospects the Commanders could draft in 2024
By Dean Jones
Which wide receiver prospects from an exceptionally deep class could the Washington Commanders potentially draft in 2024?
It seems for all the smart money as if the Washington Commanders have their sights set on one of the top quarterback prospects at No. 2 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft. After general manager Adam Peters settles on his preferred guy, surrounding him with everything needed to thrive immediately becomes their biggest priority.
The Commanders need help at the offensive tackle position, especially on the blindside. They also look a little thin of consistent pass-catching options - something those in power can address by examining one of the deepest wide receiver draft classes in recent memory.
Peters didn't do anything to fortify the wideout room in free agency aside from re-signing Jamison Crowder. This indicates Washington's front-office leader is also high on this special group of pass-catchers. Looking at the vast draft resources available, it wouldn't be a shock to see the franchise double-dip at the receiver spot if the right opportunities come along.
With this in mind, here are seven wide receiver prospects the Commanders could select during the 2024 NFL Draft.
Commanders could draft Ja'Lynn Polk
Although he's going relatively under the radar compared to most, there is growing momentum among league circles surrounding Ja'Lynn Polk. The Washington prospect enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2023 en route to 1,159 receiving yards and nine touchdowns. He became a favorite target of Michael Penix Jr., who is also set to be a high-end selection this year after alleviating medical red flags.
Polk's biggest strength is catching under pressure. His strong hands and shrewd body control enable the prospect to emerge victorious from situations like this more often than not. This physicality is also displayed versus press coverage, which his 6-foot-2 frame gets off seamlessly.
If the Washington Commanders are looking for something a little different in terms of red-zone threat, Polk is worthy of further investigation. He's expected to be taken at some stage on Day 2 of the 2024 NFL Draft. Fortunately, general manager Adam Peters boasts five picks in Rounds 2-3.
